When blueberries arrive at our local farmer's market, we know it's springtime. In the US, the blueberry season runs from April to late September. These "Little Blue Dynamos" are one of our all-time favorite fruit. We pop them by the handfuls into our mouths (our kids especially love this snack), sprinkle them liberally over vanilla ice cream, bake them into luscious pies, and soak them in red wine with raspberries and orange slices to make fruity sangria.
Did you know that blueberries are native to North America? Early on, Native Americans recognized the health benefits and deliciousness of blueberries. These days, blueberries are recognized as "Little Blue Dynamos" that are low in fat, packed with Vitamin C, a good source of fiber, and an excellent source of manganese. Not to mention they taste wonderful anytime of the day!
Here at Tartly, we pay homage to the mighty blueberry by showcasing its fresh-tasting goodness in our Tartly Blueberry Lemon Shrub, which contains blueberry puree.
July is National Blueberry Month. Come celebrate it with us!
